Winter Tires

DRIVE WITH CONFIDENCE THIS WINTER

The loss of traction on ice or snow-covered roads may become critical for safety as the temperature drops below 7°C. At Jim Pattison Lexus Northshore, we can make sure you get the correct set of winters tires with the best service from the team that knows your vehicle the best.

3-Peaked Mountain/snowflake Tires

For city driving, 3-peaked mountain/snowflake tires are considered the best type of snow tire. These tires have a specific tread pattern and rubber compound designed to provide excellent traction on snow and ice, reducing the risk of collisions. The "3-peaked mountain/snowflake" symbol is a certification mark that indicates that the tire has undergone rigorous testing and has met strict standards for snow traction.

Matching Winter Tires

We recommend using four matching winter tires with the same tread type and depth. At minimum, ensure you have two matching winter tires on your front axle, even with a 4x4. Mixing tires can compromise stability and should be avoided.

Tire Air Pressure

Cold temperatures can cause tire pressure to drop. Check your tire pressure at least monthly, especially when temperatures fall below 7°C. Underinflated tires reduce road contact, increasing the risk of skidding and loss of control.

AVOID DRIVING PENALTIES ON BC PROVINCIAL HIGHWAYS

Effective October 1 until April 30, proper winter tires are mandatory on select British Columbia Provincial Highways. M+S tires with 3.5 mm tread is the minimum requirement. We recommend drivers install 3-peaked mountain/snowflake tires for optimal traction on snow and ice. Drivers are responsible for understanding road conditions and equipping their vehicles accordingly. Drivers who fail to meet requirements may be turned away and fined. Plan accordingly before your next road trip, click here to learn more about designated winter tire & chain routes in British Columbia.
